Abstract

Painting series: Mapping the Body, Mapping the World

As a public health scientist, I often reference the epidemiological triad: the traditional model of disease causation. Its three vertices — an external agent (pathogen), a susceptible host (person), and an environment that brings them together (place) — enable the central component of the triangle, the event of disease. My interest in this model lies in its cross-sectional representation of successional events. With this painting series, my intent is to integrate pathogen, person, and place into one all-encompassing image representing the abstracted relationship.
